添付: ISO standards information for the draft of TPA.doc; Type approval standard of bilge pump in Japan.doc
件名: Japanese standard for TC8/SC1/WG1

Dear, Mr. Kurt Heinz

Thank you for sending the report and final list of delegate.
As instructed and invited by WG1, I send some information about our standard of bilge pump and possible change to ISO standards in attached files.

Also, I have some comments to the drafts as follows.
I hope this information will be some help for WG1.

Comment to the draft of TPA
Donning test in full load liferaft is questioned. We are conducting donning test in no load liferaft without inflating floor on the water. Full load liferaft seems to be more stable than with no load. So, if you suppose worse condition, liferaft in no load and no inflation of floor will be appropriate.

Comment to the survival equipment
For standard of compass, ISO 613 surely require illuminate the card, but the method of illumination seems to be supposed only by electric light, so some change of expression will be needed to be in line with LSA code.

Information of ISO standards for the draft of ISO/CD 24432(Thermal protective aids with sleeves)

Note by Tsuneo Itagaki

Possible change to ISO Standards in referred standards of the draft
1. ASTM C 177-76 (Standard Test Method for Steady-State Thermal Transmission Properties by Means of the Guarded Hot Plate) seems basically equivalent to ISO 8302:1991(= JIS A 1412-1:1999), Thermal insulation - Determination of steady-state thermal resistance and related properties - Guarded hot plate apparatus.

2. ASTM C 518-76 (Standard Test Method for Steady-State Thermal Transmission Properties by Means of the Heat Flow Meter) seems basically equivalent to ISO 8301:1991(= JIS A 1412-2:1999), Thermal insulation - Determination of steady-state thermal resistance and related properties - Heat flow meter apparatus.

3. I could not find equivalent ISO standard for ASTM D 1004-66 (Tear Resistance of Film and Sheeting), but ISO 4674:1977 method A1 which is referred in tear strength of inflatable lifejacket in MSC.81(70) seems appropriate also for thermal protective aids. Because of deferent test piece and test method from ASTM D 1004, minimum strength needs to be re-addressed.

4. For seam strength, ISO 13934-2:1999 (former ISO 5082:1982), Tensile properties of fabrics Part 2: Determination of maximum force using the grab method could be used because the standard seems almost equivalent to present draft for test method.
