Review of the minutes from the meeting in Berlin 3-4 April 2001
The acting convener noted that Mr. Palle Voss, Dk had signed the attendance sheet. Mr Voss might have participated only in parts of the meeting Berlin meeting. His name was never the less missing in the minutes. Apart from this minor correction the minutes were approved.

5
Activities for implementation of the new ISO 6954
It was noted that the new ISO 6954 had been received with interest among the shipbuilders, ship owners and classification societies and that some countries were implementing it as National Standard. Japan had a draft ready for publication as Japanese Industry Standard, JIS. It had also been used directly in Sweden and Denmark and Croatia.

Mr. Morel commented that the acceptance levels given in the standard were too high in many cases and that the contracts made up between ship owners and shipbuilders had to specify criteria specifically for each type of location in order to satisfy the individual requirement for each ship instead of just referring to ISO 6954.

The Americans still used their existing ANSI standards but were expecting a wider use of ISO 6954.

It had been decided in Berlin that Helge Tesch should produce a technical paper with comparison of the old and the new ISO 6954 with the same measured data. All participants were encouraged to do the same.

Helge Tesch had mentioned at the last meeting that 2 instruments that fulfilled the new broadband filter in ISO 6954 were available in the market.

Croatia requested revival of the Wl together with human assessment to establish confidence in the guidelines of ISO 6954. The common procedure for data collecting will be reviewed and adopted through the Wl for establishing environmental guidelines according to new meassuring procedures in ISO 6954.

Discussion in detail of the documents
Three documents were available one of which was a preliminary work item.
N 222 Global structural vibration
N 223 ・・・propulsion machinery vibration
N 228 Vibratory acceleration of shipboard equipment

After discussion it was decided to adopt the Croatian proposal to create a five-part standard consisting of: A cover document, ISO 6954 (2000), N222, N223 and N228.

All documents will be harmonized to follow the same structure for format and use of annexes to provide guidance in terms of limits (numerical). The main bodies of the texts will focus on procedures. Specifically:

Review work in sub WG regarding NWIP Guidelines for the measurement, reporting and evaluation of structural vibration in ships (Global vibration).

The document existed in several different versions. Copies were made of ISO/TC108SC2WG2N222 and the Japanese comments ISO/TC108SC2WG2N224.
During the discussions it was reported that the Japanese comments had been taken care of and that the proposal could now go forward.

The U.S. will revise N222 in accordance with the previous comments of Japan and those of the meeting participants. The U.S. will send the revised document to Helge Tesch (Dk) with copies to Mr. Olsson and Mr. Hansen together with a request that it be revised and submitted to SC 2 as a new work item within six months.

Propulsion machinery vibration
ISO/TC108SC2WG2N 223 - This document was edited considerably at the meeting and will be revised by the U.S. and submitted to SC 2 as a PWI by 31 January 2003. Calculations will be removed from the main body and made into an Annex.

"Vibratory noise measurement and acceptance criteria of shipboard equipment."
A new document ISO/TC108/SC2/WG2N228 had recently, 2002.04.02, been prepared by Mr Tesch. The title had been changed to "Mechanical vibration-Vibratory acceleration measurements and acceptance criteria of shipboard equipment"

ISO/TC108SC2WG2N228 - To an existing Wl, document to be revised by WG 2 and will be submitted to the Convener for circulation among WG 2 members by November 30.

Next meeting.
Dr. Bobanac announced that he was willing to invite TC 108/SC2 and its working groups to meet in either Zagreb or Dubrovnic next year in May.
