PRESS RELEASE
KOREA QUITS TALKS OVER SHIPBUILDING DISPUTE
Also during the second round of talks with four days of intensive negotiations the Korean delegation failed to give any substantial replies or proposal to address the issue. The European Commission has tabled a number of suggestions for a constructive approach but Korea has shown very little willingness to find an amicable solution.
CESA regrets that Korea decided not to contribute by any means to a normalisation of the market. In fact, with this renewed failure to implement the "Agreed Minutes" of 2000, Korea indicates that they intend to continue their unsustainable approach, which will lead inevitably to further destruction of the market.
Europe an shipyards strongly appreciate the decision of the European Commission not to allow further delays or to accept any vague promises. CESA is confidently looking forward to the WTO procedure, which we are convinced will prove and condemn the illegal practices of the Korean shipyards.
