Appendix 25: Peter Scheid (Session X-1&5)
SYLFF: The Next 15 Years
Session X
Thinking about Leadership Training without the Context of the SYLFF Program
Personal Remarks SYLLFF
Administrators Meeting 11 December 2002
The question of whether Leadership Training
is needed depends critically on the Type of Leaders we are taking
about (expected to be discussed in Session to V)
Boy Scout Leaders have to have skills different from those of University Presidents, ... whose skills are different from those of Political Leaders.
The unifying trait of leaders is to actively pursue a goal
For Boy Scout Leaders, the goal is clearly set by the basic rules of the "Boy Scout Association".
For Political Leaders, the goal is largely set by the political program of his/her party; political/personal power is often the essential motor.
For Academic Leaders, the goal is to develop his/her institution. Goals and ways to get there are and must be up to the creativity of the leader.
