Comparative and Historical Research on Market Economics Program
 
SYLFF Program:
This program supports a wide range of courses and research endeavors and encourages students to analyze global problems in a context free of time or place boundaries. It also exposes students to foreign cultures and stresses an in-depth, interdisciplinary knowledge of economics, statistics, and historical methods.
 
Selection Process:
Selection is based on candidates' transcripts and letters of recommendation. Whenever possible, interviews are conducted. Fellowships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence and career potential. The SYLFF fellowships typically include tuition and a stipend that varies between US$11,000 and US$16,000 annually. Fellowships are for one academic year, but can be renewed for up to two additional years. To date nineteen (19) fellowships have been awarded.

Pacific Basin Studies Fellowship Program
 
SYLFF Program:
The program provides fellowships to graduate students whose studies concentrate on the Pacific basin region and who have demonstrated high potential for future leadership in international affairs as well as in public and private endeavors. The fellowship program is open to graduate students in the fields of political science, economics, business, international and public affairs, law and journalism.
 
Selection Process:
Pacific Basin Fellowships are awarded to graduate students pursuing doctoral degrees and as travel grants to first year international affairs students. Fellowships given to PhD candidates range from US$2,000 to US$16,000 for one or two semesters; travel grants reimburse students for half of the ticket price to the country where the applicant has secured a summer internship, up to US$700 (the other half is paid by the School of International and Public Affairs). To date twenty-nine (29) fellowships and thirty-seven (37) travel grants have been awarded.
