The program stresses the acquisition of tools and knowledge necessary for fostering careers in the development, international assistance, and international political economy fields. A unique feature of the program is a provision to allow master's degree students to take a "middle year" to pursue research and language study abroad.

SYLFF Program:
SYLFF program supports students of international economics and international relations. Yale's Economic Growth Center which coordinates the fellowships is a subprogram of the Department of Economics, specializing in international and development studies. The Yale Center for International and Area Studies is the locus for an interdisciplinary grouping of faculty interested in the study of various areas of the world and international relations.
Selection Process:
Between 1995-2002 more than forty-nine (49) fellowships have been awarded.
