Slottskyrkan - The Royal Church
The current Royal Church was consecrated on 8 December 1754 by Adolf Fredrik and Lovisa Ulrika, the day after they moved into the newly built castle.
The church interior is one of the most beautiful Rococo creations in Sweden. This is to a large degree a work of Carl Harleman, the royal architect who had some experience in Paris. A number of commissioned French artists also worked on the church interior, which was highly admired even in its own time.
Many church ceremonies associated with the Royal Family have taken place here: weddings, baptisms, confirmations and funerals. An original feature of the church interior is the silver baptismal font, dating from 1707, which can now be seen in the Royal Treasury. The last occasion this church was used by the Royal Family was for the christening of Princess Madeleine in 1982.
