 Oina: a traditional game attested to be played since the second half of the 14-th century. It looks very much like the father of present American baseball. 
 Turca: a traditional children sport in which two are striking a piece of wood and catching it.

6. SPORT PARTICIPATION SURVEY 
 The declared level of participation in sport of the young urban population, studied in the research conducted by Gallup Romania was the following: 
 -41% of the youngsters take part in sport during the spare time, once a week (with participation values of 22% for males and 12% for the females during weekdays, and higher participation rates during the weekends.
 -12% take part in sport during the physical education and sport calsses in schools and faculties
  -4% practice high level sport 
 The sports practice level by the young urban population function of gender is the follwing: 
 Male (n=344) 51% practice sport during spare time, 9% during P.E. classes, 6% high level sport. 
 Female (n=363) 31% practice sport during spare time, 14% during P.E. classes, 1% high level sport. 
 
7. NUMBER OF SPORT CLUB 
 Based on the new law of sport, the sports clubs have to restructure themselves. The last statistics, dating from 1995, enlisted 3,000 sporting clubs in Romania. Private clubs are not counted. 
 
8. FITNESS TESTING PROGRAM 
 The most applied fitness test in Romania is the EUROFIT TEST issued by the Council of Europe, CDDS, Strasbourg, France.

 To attract people of all ages, social condition and of both gender towards the adoption of an active and healthy lifestyle, by freely practicing physical activities and sport, in an organized or non-organized background, function of one's own capabilities, preferences and interests. 
 To ensure the material and psychological conditions for this practice. 
 To change the mentality of the sports policy makers and of the population towards the concept of Sport for All.

 Within the Program for Sport for All Human Resources, FRSpT organizes annually a number of Sport for All training courses, on three levels. (beginners, advanced, coaches training) 
 Type: Sport for All Leaders Course, Sport for All Instructors' Course, Recreational Coaches Course. 
 Level: regional, national, Balkan (scheduled for September 2001)
