Creating Countries, Moving Beyond Countries

Currently, many leaders throughout the world are struggling with the challenges of creating countries. At the same time, there is a trend toward moving beyond countries, as represented by the European Union (EU). The 21st century is expected to witness a merging of the challenges of creating countries and of moving beyond countries. The Public Relations Division intends to contribute to these fields through research and proposals.

Culture Entertainment Industry

The so-called next stage of competition in IT will not be B2B but rather B2C and C2C, with success said to depend on the ability to create markets. Japan has distinguished creative abilities in the field of popular culture for young people, represented by manga (graphic novels) and animation. With youth throughout the world demanding popular culture originating in Japan, IT development and investment are being concentrated in these areas. Consequently, the popular culture industry is expected to assume a leading economic role. From a cultural perspective as well, as emphasis shifts from textual literacy to graphic literacy tile industry, will likely play a substantial role in culture, education and creative development, exerting a major influence on the future of the world.

It is therefore essential to foster the environment and human resources sufficient to support the popular culture industry, including manga and animation, as an advanced sector able to serve as an intellectual medium and drive the cultural and economic development of Japan into an information-intensive society.
