SOS (Sissano Offshore Survey) Programme
Purpose:
the Earthquake Tsunami off Sissano Lagoon, North of Papua Niugini (17th July 1998, 08:49UTC, M7.1)
○ Study on the seafloor deformation in the epicentral area (Earthquake fault? Underwater landslide?)
○ Study on the mechanism of the tsunami (focusing of tsunami disaster into a narrow area)
and also
○ Study on the regional geodynamics as the background of the series of the phenomena
