ARGO data
January 30, 2001 Takatsuki
About Argo project; see at Argo Home Page (http://www.argo.ucsd.edu/)
Argo data will be used for Global data assimilation, analysis of upper ocean variability (including heat and freshwater storage and transport) and so on.
The Argo data will be distributed freely through GTS (Global Telecommunication System; http://www.wmo.ch/web/www/TEM/gts.html) and internet from Argo Data Centers. The position of Argo floats also available from Argo Information Center (AIC; http://argo.jcommops.org/) to notificate the floats might drift into waters their jurisdiction.
At this moment, the Argo data on GTS are exchanged with TESAC format (http://www.meds-sdmm.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/meds/Prog_Int/J-COMM/CODES/tesaccode_e.htm). GTS data are available via NEAR-GOOS Database (Regional Real-time Database; http://goos.kishou.go.jp/,Reginal Delayed-mode Database; http://near-goos.jodc.go.jp/)
ARGO Data Center
・JAMSTEC has been constructing now. (At this moment, available at http://floatdb2/argo/for internal of JAMSTEC or http://W3.frontier.esto.or.jp/od1/yasusko/homepage/ARGOhp.html All data acquired at JAMSTEC will be publicly available other URL in near future.)
Sample TESAC code; see attachment.
…Practice…
1. Decode sample code and make MS-Excel file.
2. Calculate sea water density (sigma) on Excel
3. Make Depth-Temperature/Depth-Salinity/Depth-sigma/Temperature-Salinity plot
…To use Visual Basic function…
1. Open New Workbook on Excel
2. select Tools-macros-Visual Basic Editor
3. select Insert-standard module
4. select Insert-file- sigma.vb
