5. Conclusions
Emissions of CO, CO2, THC, SOx and particles from the diesel process are low compared with those of other industrial sources.
Low NOx Combustion technology can already bring the NOx emissions into line with future IMO rules, while having virtually no effect on fuel consumption.
Regional NOx requirements can be met by:
-installing a mechanism for temporary adjustment of the fuel injection timing from the engine controls.
-utilizing the Direct Water Injection technology, which is a cost-effective, small-size NOx-reduction method applicable also for retrofit installations.
-utilizing the SCR catalyst technology, which has demonstrated excellent performance and reliability over many years of successful operation on all types of fuels and applications. The Compact SCR concept optimally combines the silencer and NOx reduction effect in a compact unit, applicable for modern low-NOx-emitting engines.
