Western Australian marine industry is represented in each of the categories in Table 2.

There is the potential to develop Western Australian activity in a variety of specialist marine industries including coastal and ocean engineering and underwater technology.

INDUSTRY ASSOCIATIONS

Within industry itself there is considerable merit in greater cohesion between different marine-based industries, particularly when presenting a united input to government. However, the diversity of industries and some level of competition between them will have to be addressed to achieve greater cooperation.

The Australian Shipbuilding Association (ASA) is the industry body representing most major shipbuilders in the marine industry. In 1994 the Association set its face firmly to the future with the production of its Strategic Plan 1995 - 2001. The plan aims to see the Australian Shipbuilding industry exporting $1 billion worth of products by the year 2001.
