2.2 Technical Cooperation
MAN B&W claims that it has the largest international family of licensees for large engines. Licensing agreements for the manufacture of MAN B&W Diesel's two-stroke engines have been established with over 20 companies in 13 countries.
In Japan, the company's licensees are Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (since 1926), Kawasaki Heavy Industries (since 1981) and Hitachi Zosen (since 1951). The Makita Corporation is a sub-licensee of Mitsui (since 1981). The licensee accounting for the largest proportion of licensed output is Hyundai (27 per cent of aggregate bhp), followed by Mitsui (25 per cent), Hitachi (9 per cent) and Kawasaki (8 per cent).
