Energy and Water Use
Reducing your use of energy
Energy costs are a major expense for business. An energy management program can reduce the overall costs of energy and also reduce the long-term environmental impacts of excessive energy use.
The Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) produces a directory of energy service companies that provide energy management equipment and technical advice. The Energy Smart Allies Directory is available by calling SEDA.
If you do not have the skills to analyse and implement an energy management program on your own, it may be worthwhile to engage a private consultant who has the specialist knowledge and skills. Energy auditors are accredited by the Institute of Engineers Australia, which keeps a register.
SEDA's Energy Smart Business Program helps factories and other large energy users to become more energy-efficient by providing technical assistance and advice from leading consultants in commercial energy services. Contact SEDA for more information.
The Commonwealth Dept of Primary Industries and Energy has produced comprehensive booklets on this subject:
・Developing an Energy Management Program
・Involving Employees in Environmental Management Programs
・The Energy Audit
・Saving Energy through Lighting Management.
These publications and more are available free of charge from the Energy Advisory and Referral Service at the Sydney Building Information Centre.
