It is a great pleasure to present to you the "Pavel Berman & Tomoko Kato Duo Violin Recital" this evening.

Nippon Music Foundation focuses on the activities to help young string players achieve their highest musical careers. The Foundation currently owns total of 14 stringed instruments and they are loaned free of charge to young promising as well as to already established musicians internationally.

Since 1998, Mr. Berman, with the recommendation from the renowned violinist Ms. Midori Goto, has been using the Guarneri del Gesu 1736 violin "Muntz" owned by the Foundation. This will also be his Japan debut concert. Ms. Tomoko Kato has so generously agreed to perform this evening on the other 1736 violin "Muntz" made by Stradivari. We believe that this will be a unique attempt to compare the timbre of the two violins both made in Cremona in 1736.

We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to The Nippon Foundation for their generous support and understanding of our musical activities.

Takashi Shudo

Chairman, Nippon Music Foundation
