The UEC-LSE series was designed to enhance those UEC engine's features further more and low emissions using the latest technology based on the excellent service results of the UEC-LSII series.
The output of UEC-LSE engines is decided to be at the level of 19 bar brake mean effective pressure (BMEP) as the results of the verification such as high BMEP test in UEC-LSII and test engines in MHI's laboratory and computer aided engineering (CAE), etc. In addition to the above the countermeasure against environmental problem has been researched and developed. Now, all UEC engines including UEC-LSE meet the first IMO-NOx regulation b engine fine tuning (fuel injection timing retard, low NOx fuel injection valve, etc). As you know, however, IMO NOx regulation is going to be revised every 5 ears, and NOx limit is going to be lower than the present value.
For the next step of the regulation mentioned above, we have already developed the stratified fuel water injection system as shown below. It can reduce NOx up to approx. 50% without great increase of FOC. The stratified fuel water injection can be applied as one optional item for UEC-LSE engines. The UEC68LSE and UEC52LSE engines are developed mainly as the main engines of the capesize and panamax bulk carriers respectivel .
At present, four sets of 6UEC52LSE engines are on order with Kobe Diesel Co., Ltd. which is another licensee in Japan and will be in test running in the beginning of 2001.
