OCEAN RESEARCH SHIPS
HANNIBAL Fishery Research Vessel
The fishery research vessel HANNIBAL was completed on October 29, 1998 at Niigata Shipyard of Niigata Engineering Co., Ltd. and delivered to the owner, Institut National des Sciences et Technologies de la Mer (INSTIM), Republic of Tunisia as the first modern fishery research vessel. This vessel has been planned, executed and completed under Japanese grant-aid of the Official Development Assistance (ODA) for the purpose of the oceanographic research for the controllable effective utilization of Tunisian natural marine resource.
Features
1. The HANNIBAL has been equipped with a variety of modern acoustic instruments for oceanographic observation and integrated fishing research, Echo-integrated Sounder, CTD System, Scanning Sonar, Net Recorder, Doppler Current Indicator, and so on, which are all sensitive to noise and vibration. To keep the noise level low and to decrease vibration, the following countermeasures have been executed.
・The ship's shape was designed for good seaworthiness and stability.
・Main engine was installed with anti-vibration rubber material and an auxiliary machinery has been arranged for low noise and vibration.
・Anti-propagation noise and vibration material was selected and installed for construction of accommodation with the target of IMO Rule (RES, A 468 X11, 1981).
2. The HANNIBAL is equipped with a variety of modern acoustic instruments and equipment to be well qualified for oceanographic research, observation survey and integrated fishing research.
