MULTI-PURPOSE SHIPS
SCHIPPERSGRACHT 18,900-dwt Multi-purpose Cargo Ship
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. delivered the 18,900-dwt multi-purpose cargo ship SCHIPPERSGRACHT, to the Dutch owner Spliethoff's Bevrachtingskantoor B.V. at the MHI Shimonoseki Shipard and Machinery Works on January 14,2000. The ship is the first of six sister ships. (Three ships were built by MHI and the other three ships were built by Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.)
The ship is a multi-purpose cargo ship with wide side loaders which can facilitate the transfer of multi-purpose cargoes such as timber, paper, general cargoes, bulk, containers, hot coils, ore, various plants, dangerous goods, etc.
Features
1. A total of five (5) side shifters (16 t S.W.L. per set) fitted in enclosed structure on the vessel's starboard side can facilitate the transfer of paper cargo between quay and hold spaces in all weather. The elevators housed in 10m high towers on the upper deck are hoisted down to the cargo hold bottom. These arrangements are not affected b the great difference in tidemarks.
2. A total of three (3) deck cranes (Max.120 T S.W.L. at 14m radius per set) are installed, two (2) at the port side and one (1) at the starboard side, can facilitate the transfer of maximum 240 T capacity of heavy cargoes by tandem operation.
3. The main cargo holds can be accessed through three hatches by hydraulic operation. Removable tweendecks formed of pontoon-type covers will achieve various cargo stowage permutations by locking into position at three levels and can be also used as partial transverse bulkheads.
