AGIOS ANDREAS 52,068-dwt Handymax Bulk Carrier
The 52,068-dwt bulk carrier AGIOS ANDREAS was delivered to Voreios Shipping Company Limited of Cay-man Islands in July 2000 at the Mizushima Works and Shipyard o f Sanoyas Hishino Meisho Corporation. The bulk carrier is the first vessel of the 52,000-dwt type handymax bulk carrier series newly developed by Sanoyas.
Features
1. The cargo space is divided into five cargo holds with topside tanks and hopper bottoms; its bulk carrier structure affords efficient cargo stowage.
2. Cargo carrying capacity is increased by maximizing deadweight and hold capacity.
3. Hydraulic, motor-driven, end-folding hatch covers are used, and hatch openings are maximized to facilitate cargo handling. All cargo hatches are more than twenty meters long for efficient handling of long-size steel cargoes.
4. The vessel is a flush decker with forecastle and equipped with four sets of electro-hydraulic driven deck cranes to enhance cargo loading / unloading efficiency and handle heavy cargoes: one twin-type with a hoisting capacity of 30-ton x 2 and three single-type with 30-ton capacity.
5. The design allows a variety of cargoes to be handled, including rain, ore, coal, steel products and 25-ton hot rolled coils.
6. Fixed equipment for cargo holds such as CO2 fire extinguishing system, smoke tube type fire detection system, mechanical ventilation devices (explosion-proof), etc. are provided to carry dangerous cargoes defined by SOLAS.
7. Central cooling system is adopted for engine room machinery, air conditioning plant and refrigerating plant to reduce maintenance works.
