OPALIA 300,000-dwt Double-Hull VLCC
A 300,000-dwt double-hull VLCC OPALIA was built at the Sakaide Works of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd., and delivered to Kismet Shipping Limited in November 1999.
Features
1. The principal dimensions of the ship are determined to secure as large as 300,000-dwt with sufficient cargo capacity to carry more than 2,000,000 bbls of crude oil, to be among the world's largest class ships of the best operational efficiency, which takes into account her compatibility with many VLCC terminals in the world. A hull form that can provide necessary dead-weight at relatively shallow draft is adopted.
2. Less water resistance hull form, rudder bulb with fins (RBS-F Mk ll) and high efficiency propeller are adopted for high propulsion performance.
3. Kawasaki Apple Slot structure (patented) is applied to all slot structures at connections between the longitudinals and transverse webs where fatigue strength is the most concerned factor in the hull structure. The Apple Slot is a drastically improved structure on conventional ones for fatigue strength.
4. With a vapor recovery system, the ship has obtained Notation VCS2 (B) from Det Norske Veritas.
5. The automatic unloading system is provided and stripping suction is arranged in the suction well for better stripping performance.
