EUROPEAN CAUSEWAY 4,276-dwt RO-RO Passenger Ferry
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) delivered the 4,276-dwt Ro-Ro passenger vessel, EUROPEAN CAUSEWAY, to the UK owner P&O European Ferries (Irish Sea) Limited at the MHI Shimonoseki Shipyard and Machinery Works on Jul 14,2000.The ferry was put into service on the route between Larne (Northern Ireland) and Cairnryan (South Scotland).The second vessel was delivered on December 12,2000 for the route between Liverpool and Dublin.
Features
1. EUROPEAN CAUSEWAY is an impressive 159.5 meters long and 23.4 meters beam, and will carry up to 410 passengers, 375 cars and / or 107 x 13.5 m commercial vehicles in her 3 vehicle decks with high head room. Traveling at a speed of 22.7 knots, EUROPEAN CAUSEWAY will reduce the conventional ship crossing time on the Larne-Cairnryan route to 105 minutes.
2. The passenger ferry has been designed to provide first class standards of passenger comfort, pleasure and onboard service both for tourists and freight customers. The interior has been designed b an English designer. It creates a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere. Facilities on the ship include fables restaurant, poets bar, video lounge, quiet lounge, children's video and play area, game areas and sea shop. There are also special separate commercial drivers lounge, restaurant and shower facilities.
3. All post-Estonia requirements have been met. High stability after damage without bulkhead on vehicle decks, latest life saving equipment, including marine evacuation system (MES), means of rescue (MOR), helicopter landing facilities, low location lighting system have been provided. High standards of electronic navigation system including electric chart, voyage event recorder have been installed. Four-engine-driven twin-screw in separate engine room is utilized for extra high performance in emergency operation.
