<アジア音楽週間2000in横浜実行委員会>名誉会長/横浜市長
アジア各国から、多くの音楽家の方々を横浜にお招きし、1週間にわたり音楽の祭典を開催できますことは、大変嬉しく思います。
今回の音楽祭では、<躍動する音たち>をテーマにアジアを代表する一流音楽家の方々による演奏、将来の音楽界を担う子どもたちによる合唱、韓国・ミャンマーなどの伝統音楽等、魅力的な事業の数々が実施されることとなっております。当日会場には、新鮮な音の調べが響き渡り、訪れる人々の心を和ませてくれることでしょう。
横浜では、今後「横浜トリエンナーレ」や「FIFAワールドカップサッカー決勝戦」等、世界的な規模の催しが開催されることとなっておりますが、アジア音楽週間は、こうしたイベントの一つとして大いに期待されるところです。これからも、様々な機会を通じて、国際文化都市としての横浜の魅力を大いに発信し、国内外から多くの人々が集う「元気で明るい横浜」にしていきたいと考えております。
終わりに、この音楽祭の開催にあたり、御尽力いただきました関係者の皆様に、深く敬意を表しますとともに心から感謝申しあげます。

Week 2000 in Yokohama Committee
I am very much pleased to welcome such a great number of musicians from Asia and to hold a Music Festival through a week. This music festival has the theme "Rejoicing Sounds" and has many attractive programs: performances by outstanding musicians, choir of childrens who will bear music in the future, traditional music of Korean and Myanmer and so on. Fresh sound echos will make the visitors comfortable.
Yokohama city is going to have several worldwide events hereafter, such as "Yokohama Trienalle", "final game of FIFA World Cup Foot Ball", and Asian Music Week is much expected as a one among them. I hope that Yokohama will appeal its fascination as an international culture city, and will be a "cheerful & active" place where a lot of people gather from the world. I'd like to extend my most profound thanks and appreciation to all those who contributed their time and effort to the planning and running of the festival.

‘アジア音楽週間2000in横浜’が、横浜の開港から141年、20世紀最後の年である2000年に催されることは、21世紀の文化創造がアジアから世界に広がることを予見させるもので丸20世紀のアジア作曲界を総括するこの音楽祭で、多くのアジアの音楽家と、地元・横浜市民の交流が育まれることにより、新たな文化が創造され、ここ横浜から発信されることでしょう。
1859年の開港以来、横浜は‘港’を介して常に‘世界’へ開かれておりました。海の向こうから、そして海の向こうへ、入ってくるもの、そして出て行くもの…。その全てが横浜のまちに集まり、日本国内へ、あるいは世界へ向けて発信されていきました。横浜には、新しいものを柔軟に受け入れ、醸成していく力が備わっているのです。横浜からの新たな文化の交流と発信が、21世紀の文化の曙光となり得れば、これに勝る喜びはありません。

"Asian Music Week 2000 in Yokohama1'is held in the last year of 20th century 141 years after opening the Yokohama Port, which foresee that cultural creativities in 21st century will expand from Asia to the whole world. In this music festival unifying all the activities of Asian composers in 20th century, new cultures will appear through cultural exchange between many Asian composers and our local citizens.
Since the port was opened in 1859, Yokohama has ever been open to "the world", whether coming or leaving over the sea. All gathered at Yokohama once and then started for the world.
Yokohama has the power and flexibility of accepting new things. It will be a great pleasure that this opportunity in Yokohama will be the ray of hope.
