Kokura Gion Taiko
Kokura Gion is one of three major Gion Festivals in Japan. The other is held in Kyoto, and the third in Hakata.
Grand Kokura Gion Festival takes place on the third weekend of July every year. It dates back to 1617 when a then daimyo lord, Tadaoki Hosokawa, built his Gion shrine to wish the prosperity of the town in which his castle was built.
Kokura Gikon Taiko played during the festival symbolizes Kokura Gion Festival, Normally Taiko playing takes place on top of a dashi, special festival float. There are over 100 such dashi representing various town.
