(2) New Safety Measures
JCG has produced three types of maritime casualty prevention instruction pamphlets for recreational boats, pleasure fishing boats and jet skis and provides them to marinas, sales outlets, and other places. It carries out meticulous promotional activities responding to leisure objectives, including distributing these pamphlets primarily to those people about to get involved in marine leisure.
1] The Marine Road Journey Concept
The concept is to promote development of an environment in which people travel on marine roads in recreational boats similar to the way people go for a drive in their car, and enjoy worry-free maritime travel.
More specifically, the idea is to identify harbors, marinas and other locations appropriate in terms of ensuring the safety of routes into and out of ports, and mooring areas as marine road stations and establish recommended safe routes that link these stations so as to render travel on recreational boats safe. Furthermore, the idea is to render information, at ports of call, on meteorological and oceanographic weather conditions, maritime safety and leisure, land access and oil supply facilities accessible as well as information about lodging and sightseeing, and furthermore construct a network enabling private rescue organizations to carry out rapid rescues in case people meet with maritime accidents or other incidents.
2] Effective Use of Cellular Phones in Maritime Rescue
Rapid communication to rescue organizations is vital to effect a speedy rescue. Reviews are now being conducted to establish whether cellular phones can be used in maritime rescues as an effective means of communication in times of emergency.
