Attained subdivision index:
A = Σ ΔA = 0.5501
Required subdivision index:
R = (0.002 + 0.0009 Ls) 1/3 = (0.002 + 0.0009* 174.98)1/3 = 0.54230
where: Ls - subdivision length;
Ls = 174.98 m (for the B-191 container ship)
The final result is as follows:
A。膤
0.5501>0.54230
For more advanced design of a ship for safety in damaged condition the following approach has been applied.
In Figure 1, there is the arrangement of internal spaces for a cargo ship presented. Three design versions regarding both the number and position of transverse bulkheads are taken into account during the computer simulation of the risk assessment in critical conditions.
The Table 1 presents the results of the Attained Subdivision Index A optimisation for all the mentioned design versions, introduced in Figure 1.
Both the preliminary and final positions of each bulkhead for all the design versions are presented in Table 2. The system of coordinates is placed at the midship.
In Table 3 the algorithm of the direct risk assessment method is introduced. The relevant stability characteristics are presented in Figure 2. During the conference the risk assessment in critical conditions for a container vessel may be discussed.
