Application of TRIBON cad/cam system aiming at the ship production automation
Lukasz Piskorski*
ABSTRACT:
Author presents experiences gathered during Tribon CAD/CAM system implementation. Requirements for the shipbuilding process automation are discussed. Links between ship design and manufacturing are shown as well in the paper.
Key Words: Robotics, Automation systems, hull, ship
1. INTRODUCTION
Marine technology, particularly the area of ship design and manufacturing is experiencing rapid changes in a more competitive world market. Effectiveness of the shipbuilding depends strongly on new techniques applied in ship design and production. In many yards all over the world application of robots became a fact. The CAD system application seems to be an initial step leading to a wide utilisation of robots in ship hull manufacturing.
Ship production in the Region of Western Pomerania puts Polish shipbuilding on the leading position in the world. Szczecin Shipyard and the Faculty of Maritime Technology, as the users of Tribon CAD/CAM system, play key role in modernisation of shipbuilding technology in Poland.
2. TECHNICAL DOCUMENTATION OF A SHP
Technical documentation created in TRIBON system contains construction drawings of a hull, equipment of power-plant, drawings of pipe systems, ventilation and electric systems and technological plans. In the paper technical documentation of the ship hull is taken into consideration because of its key role in the shipbuilding process. Creating of the documentation allows:
- printing 2D drawings of construction, fig.1, similar to traditional shipbuilding working drawings made by hand,
- creation of 3D views (presentation sketches and assembly schedules), fig.2,
- creation of material list,
- creation of nesting charts for cutting out plate details.
All kinds of working drawings are the result of electronic recording of the ship construction. This kind of recording can be used to control the automatic devices and robots (cutting machines, assembling, welding and painting devices).
