6. CONCLUSION

 

Our simulator is stuffed with a lot of know-how as a shipyard and a plant engineer, and the precise and faithful marine diesel plant model, and simulates whatever trainee operates as the main point. We believe what most important function of the training simulator is that;

(1) It should not be the one that performs along with the fixed scenario, but reacts to the operation of the trainee with the dynamic models.

(2) It has to faithfully react with not only normal operations but also unexpected and abnormal operations by the trainee.

In the past we had to use EWS for the precise simulation that could calculate the complicated simulation mathematical model at high speed, and the manufacturing cost of simulator became high. However, the simulator was needed for the education and training tool in school, the simulator was needed for experience education and tainting by lower grade students (beginners) and study of dynamic characteristic by the upper grade students easily at a low price. With the rapid progress of PCs, now we have adopted them as the hardware configuration and general-Windows NT as the operating system, In addition, for easy understanding actual plant and machinery, the simulator has been made to simulate the actual machinery system, and to prepare the various graphical indication display for convenient operation and effective experience familiar to trainees, for example overview display on the ECR operator station. Of course, we confirmed that the simulation accuracy is enough to simulate the model ship by comparing our design and test data of the model ship.

As a result, the customer commented that the trainee can experience the virtual abnormal accident situations caused by various behavior from unprepared operations, for example, shut some valves, by the precise simulation model. The students of navigation can begin to be interested in emergency crash stopping distance and time caused by difference of ship's loading amount or displacement.

Although so far we think that the simulator configured with PCs limits scope and reality of the simulation comparing EWS hardware configuration, we expect that the synthetic performance of PC and around it will be improved. And we expect that the simulator configured with EWS will be replaced by the PCs near the future. Finally, we hope we will be able to develop and supply simulators that meet the various needs of the users.
