Dear Sirs,

In view of starting the works of Subcommittee 11 we asked the participant members to send us the possible suggestions and proposals.

Also, we asked the Directorate General VII - TRANSPORT of the European Commission, to send us working documents in the special field TCS/SC11.

Due to the kindness and goodwill of Mr. Ismo Koskinen from Directorate for Maritime Transport and Ports of EC we received some documents which allow us to learn the level reached in the EC in SSS knowledge /study /research /application within the member countries and the ancillary hydrographical basin.

Also, due to the kindness of Mr. S.C. Schade from DIN, we came into contact with TC 300 "Sea - Going Vessels and Marine Technology", in view of exchanging information and avoiding the doubling or parallelism of some works.

Obviously, for the European Zone, International & Short Sea Shipping represent a true perspective for relieving the road traffic and/or implementing the system.
