3. Designated Rescue Boats

The Sub-Committee discussed a proposal by the United Kingdom to require all ships to carry designated rescue boats for the recovery of survivors and to also improve the arrangements for marshalling liferafts. After much discussion of differing opinions, the United Kingdom withdrew its earlier proposal and advised its intention to make a fresh submission to MSC73.

4. Partially Weathertight Hatchway Covers on board Container Ships

The Sub-Committee discussed a recommendation for the installation of partially-weathertight hatch covers on board containerships. Members were invited to submit comments on this subject to DE44.

 

N. Election of Chairman and Vice-Chairman for 2000:

Mr. A. Chrysostomou of Cyprus was reelected as Chairman for 2001 and CAPT J. E. C. Rocha of Brazil was reelected as Vice-Chairman.

 

L. Work Programme and Agenda for DE44:

The proposed Work Programme and Provisional Agenda for DE44 are shown in the Attachment to this report. Please note the inclusion of the following four items that were not discussed in the above summary:

(1) Use of desalinators on lifeboats and liferafts

(2) Safety aspects of water ballast management

(3) Revision of Interim Standards for ship manoeuvrability (resolution A.751 (18))

(4) Amendments to SOLAS requirements on electrical installations.

Any questions on the above should be referred to the undersigned ISO representative who attended the IMO DE43 meeting.
