1. Performance standards for shipborne satellite radionavigational receivers

The NAV Sub-Committee discussed the draft amendments to IMO's performance standards such as A.819(19) performance standards for GPS receiver equipment, MSC.53(66) performance standards for GLONASS receiver equipment, MSC.64(67), Annex 2 performance standards for DGPS receiver equipment and MSC.74(69), Annex 1 performance standards for Combined GPS/GLONASS receiver equipment.

The Sub-Committee examined RAIM (Receiver Autonomous Integrity Monitor) of GNSS receiver equipment, which has an effective function to give alarm when a erroneous signal has been received. However RAIM is not reliable enough as to this function at all time when used in the current system with 4 satellites in view. Therefore, it was concluded that RAIM might be suitable for application as a promising system, if more satellites is increased, technical improvement is made, or some technology known as CAIM (Craft Autonomous Integrity Monitoring) is developed in future.

It was agreed at the plenary session that the subject issue was concluded this time, that the subject standards were approved with the date of coming into force on 1 July 2003, and that the new performance standards would be submitted MSC 73 for approval and adoption.

2. User requirements for heading system

TMHD (Transmitting Magnetic Heading Devices), which was submitted to and approved at MSC 71, has been dealt with as a matter of continuous consideration because of the following (pointed out at NAV45):
