・Physical connectors must be joined with physical connectors, and functional with functional.
・Connector occurrences must be joined with occurrences, and definitions with definitions.
・Connectors need not be of the same functional classification, end type, or engagement type to be joined in the connection (though the resulting join may be messy!)
