Connectors-Functional Classification
Connectors (functional/physical, definition/occurrence) may be classified according to the intended functional behavior of the connector:
・Structural connector: purpose of connection is transfer of loads; not a high priority concept in AP227, therefore no more detail is necessary/provided.
・Electrical connector: purpose of connection is transfer of electrical current for either power or signal transmission; not a high priority concept in AP227, therefore no more detail is necessary/provided.
・Piping connector: purpose of connection is transfer of fluids, gas or material; importance of concept in AP227 resulted in refinement of classification.
Function-based. is a separate and distinct notion from
・functional connector.
Piping Connectors
Piping Connectors are classified per End Type...
・end type. refers to the designed shapes of the connctor;
...and End Engagement Type
・engagement type. refers to the intended method of connection to another connector:
・Socket, threaded, buttweld, flange
Not all engagement types are possible with all end types.
