3. Activities for Factories or facilities for Repairing Legally Designated Ship Equipment

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport certifies those factories or facilities for repairing legally designated ship equipment which own legally specified facilities and equipment and have sufficient personnel for executing periodic inspections on the legally designated ship equipment as approved factories or facilities. Actually, the authority to certify such factories or facilities is delegated to the General Managers of District Transport Bureaus.

The items maintained by such approved factories or facilities are exempted from government inspections and left to the in-house inspections of these factories or facilities.

This system is based on the technical ability to secure the quality and performance of ship equipment and management ability to control documents and articles regarding maintenance. The approved factory or facility for repairing bears a great responsibility of conducting statutory inspections on behalf of the government and therefore are required to endeavor to keep their maintenance technologies and management systems always high enough to satisfy the legal requirements.

SQCA executes the activities for these factories or facilities.
