Outdoor Exhibits
1. フローティングパビリオン羊蹄丸
青函連絡船として、永年にわたり北海道と青森を結んできた“羊蹄丸”を丸ごとリニューアルし、フローティングパビリオンとして誕生しました。船と人が織りなす豊かな文化と海の神秘を体感型アミューズメントとして公開しています。
2. 南極観測船“宗谷”
“宗谷”は昭和13年耐氷型貨物船として建造され、太平洋戦争を経験。その後は引揚船、灯台補給船となり、昭和31年11月からは日本初の南極観測船として昭和37年4月まで、6次にわたる南極観測に活躍しました。その後昭和53年退役するまで海上保安庁の巡視船として活躍、昭和54年5月から、船の科学館前に係留され永久保存展示されています。
3. 戦艦“陸奥”主砲
日本海軍に所属した戦艦“陸奥”の主砲です。
4. 戦艦“大和”模型
史上最大の戦艦“大和”の1/20の模型です。
5. 海底ハウス“歩号一世”
昭和43年に民間の手でつくられ、居住実験が行われた海底ハウスです。
6. 超電導電磁推進装置
世界初の超電導電磁推進船“ヤマト-1”に搭載された推進装置です。
7. 半没水型双胴実験船“マリンエース”
昭和52年10月完成した日本で始めての半没水型双胴実験船です。
8. 潜水艇“たんかい”
大陸棚海域における潜水調査を目的に建造された小型潜水艇です。
9. 二式大型飛行艇
昭和15年12月日本の航空・造船など、あらゆる技術が総結集されて誕生した大型飛行艇です。その性能は、すべての面で当時世界一でした。
10. 大瀬埼灯台
明治12年に、東支那海、朝鮮海峡を航行する船にとって重要な位置にある長崎、五島列島の大瀬崎に建てられた、数少ない西洋式大型灯台の一つです。
11. 東京灯船の灯器
船の上に設置された灯台で、昭和22年、東京港の入口を示すために使われました。
12. 安乗埼灯台
明治5年に三重県安乗埼に建設された灯台で、現存する木造灯台としては日本最古のものです。
1. Yotei-maru Floating Pavilion
The Yotei-maru, which connected Hokkaido and Aomori for many years as the Aomori-Hakodate Ferry, has been completely restored and made into a floating pavilion. It has been opened to convey the mystery of the sea and the rich culture woven by boats and people.
2. Soya former Antarctica Observation Ship
The Soya was constructed as a cargo icebreaker in 1938 and used during World War II.
Thereafter, it served as a repatriation ship and a servicing ship for lighthouses. Between November of 1956 and April of 1962, it made six trips to the Antarctic as Japan's first Antarctic observation ship. Until its retirement in 1978, the Soya was used as a patrol ship by the Maritime Safety Agency. Since May of 1979, it has been moored at the Museum of Maritime Science as part of its permanent exhibit.
3. The Main Battery of the Battleship Mutsu
The main battery of the battleship Mutsu, which was the flagship of the Imperial Japanese Navy.
4. A Model of the Battleship Yamato
A model of the legendary battleship yamato, built at one-twentieth the original size.
5. Ayumi Go Issei Ocean-Floor House
An ocean-floor house, which was built as an experimental residence by private parties in 1968.
6. Superconducting Electromagnetic Propulsion System
A propulsion system for the Yamato 1, the world's first superconducting electromagnetic propulsion ship.
7. Marine Ace, an Experimental Semi-Buoyant Twin Fuselage Boat
The first experimental semi-buoyant twin fuselage boat in Japan, completed in October of 1977.
8. Tankai Submarine
A small submarine constructed for underwater studies of the continental shelf.
9. Type2 Flying Boat
A type2 Flying Boat, completed in December of 1940, which combined all the technology available at that time in aviation and ships. It was the best in the world at the time.
10. Osezaki Lighthouse
A rare western-style lighthouse, built in 1879 in Osezaki in the Goto Islands of Nagasaki Prefecture, an important location for those navigating the East China Sea and the Korea Strait.
11. The lighting apparatus of the Tokyo Lightship
A beacon installed on a ship and used to show the entrance to Tokyo Bay in 1947.
12. Anorizaki Lighthouse
Built in Mie Prefecture's Anorizaki in 1872, it is the oldest wooden lighthouse still in existence in Japan.
