A signboard lantern with the text “For those who wish to come and listen, feel free to enter. Ladies please sit in the back” was hanging from the eaves of the room where the lectures were held. Thus Baigan made no distinction between men and women when he invited people to come to listen to his lectures. The sections for the men and the women were separated by bamboo blinds.
