Try to speak strongly and imagine you are pushing the air against the region or higher in order to produce high tone. This would definitely heighten your voice than before when you did not care about the tone of vocalization.

Before the laryngectomy, you could simply let the air vibrate the vocal cords to make voice, and movements of the mouth produced various sounds of speech.
