III. WHEN YOU PRACTICE
1) At the beginning of the practice
The important thing you must remember when you begin to practice talking is that, as mentioned above the postoperative relations of the organs are different from the preoperative ones so far as the voice producing is concerned. That is, if you draw air into your lungs and then breathe it out with the intention of talking, you cannot find your voice. To make voice, you must swallow air.
2) Time to begin practice
You had best, as a rule, begin practicing esophageal speech as soon as possible. You may as well begin a week or so after your wounds are well healed without any purulent sore and so you can swallow liquid and solid food with ease. It is because at this time the dietary restrictions owing to the operation will be removed, and your physical strength will be remarkably restored.
