A-4 Perform esophageal speech by deep abdominal breathing
You are able to maintain a constant volume within the thoracic cavity by putting a hand over the tracheostoma because there is no expiration. It is therefore easier to apply abdominal pressure and also easier to produce speech. For the time being, you made basic sound this way. More practice will cure the problem.
Aggressively practice voice production by controlling exhalation without putting your hand over the tracheostoma. Don't rely on closing the opening, but concentrate your energy on deep abdominal respiration. You will soon become able to speak without pressing the tracheostoma.
One advantage of esophageal speech is that it leaves both hands free. Speak in a natural way by taking advantage of this.
Q-5 I produce a great deal of phlegm. What should I do?
Three months have passed since surgery. I now have problems with a great deal of phlegm from the tracheostoma. Is there any good way to prevent this? Will it just go away naturally?
