Figure 10 Esophageal reconstruction using the greater pectoral muscle
The tube of skin shown here is constructed using the right greater pectoral muscle.
The tube of skin is sutured to the site where the hypopharynx and cervical esophagus have been removed, e.g., due to malignancy.
The skin flap raised by the incision is returned to the original site to cover the reconstructed esophagus.
Figure 11 Stomach tube suspension
As shown here, the stomach is resected to construct a narrow of stomach tissue so as to suspend it.
Where the area of metastasis is greatly, the entire esophagus is excised.
The stomach tube thus prepared is suspended for suturing to the pharynx.
