The hypopharynx end esophagus are strained, preventing air from entering the esophagus.

False sounds such as "ka", "kya!" are produced because speech is attempted using the limited amount of air in the mouth.

Therefore, vowels are not produced.

・ The cervical esophagus immediately beneath the new glottis is narrow (part of the esophagus may have been resected).

 

Have the attending physician fluoroscope the hypopharynx and esophagus to determine the presence or absence of narrowed portions.
