2. Tea-Drinking Method

Students who find themselves unable to produce the basic sound even by repeating the above actions are urged to try the following method:

First, ingest a little water (or tea) in your mouth together with the air. Swallow them together in one gulp. After about 0.5-1 second, forcefully suck in your gut (abdomen) to increase abdominal pressure and exhale the air out to say "ah."

This way, you can open the esophageal mouth wide as you drink tea, and inhale air, together with the tea, into your esophagus.

This "tea drinking/sipping method" has been recommended in both the United States and Japan, especially by Masashi Nakamura, president of the Ginrei-Kai. Encourage your students to produce the basic sound "ah" quickly using this method.

As a rule, the first success in producing the basic sound rids beginners of their fear and helps them relax. They will look happy and will want to practice more. It is best to encourage students until they succeed in producing the basic sound "ah" on their first day of practice.

The purpose of the tea-drinking method is to strengthen the beginner's will to practice.
