(2) Type of vessel involved

Marine accidents involving fishing vessels represented the largest number of marine accidents upon which judgments were pronounced in 1998 at 516, or 43.7% of the total, followed by accidents involving cargo ships, which numbered 284, or 24.1% of the total. Combined, these two groups were equivalent to 67.8% of all marine accidents judged during the year.
