The skipper of the "Eve 1", witnessed the collision and reported in a rush to the scene using the engine after folding the sail and participated in the rescue operation, saving the Skipper of the "Fuji Maru No.1", examinee and two other persons on the inflatable liferaft.

The Commanding Officer of the "Setoshio" sighted, at a point of about 500 m north of No. 5 central light buoy, the "Fuji Maru No.1" which was lying on her side and the "Nadashio" in her close vicinity and, as well as reporting the fact to the Commander of Submarine Flotilla 2 who was on board, headed for the scene immediately, while issuing an order for crew members to be stationed for rescuing men overboard. At About 15:50 hours, she reached about 600 m north of the scene of the collision, prepared equipment necessary for the treatment of the injured and sent the chief nurse and assistants to the "Matsuwa Maru No.3" sailing toward the scene of the accident, by use of the tug "VT59" of the Maritime Self-Defense Force, which came out of the port of Yokosuka in a rush.

On the other hand, following receipt of a report of the accident, the Commander of Submarine Flotilla 2 took command of the rescue operation on the bridge of the "Setoshio". He devoted himself to the rescue operation without reporting the occurrence of the accident to a higher organization under the false impression that the Commander of the Fleet Escort Force on board the "Kurama" was aware of the situation, since he intercepted a request for rescue operations sent from the "Nadashio" to the "Chitose" and a message of notification to the Commander of the Fleet Escort Force; he did not report the accident to the Maritime Safety Agency, either, as he recognized that the Maritime Safety Agency patrol boat Hanayuki was sailing toward the scene of the accident.

The "Chitoes", with many visitors on board, reversed her course immediately after receipt of a request for rescue operations, reporting by radio telephone to the Commander of the Fleet Escort Force that she was heading for the scene for rescue operations, and arrived at the scene at about 15:52 hours and sent a launch with one medical officer and ten rescue team members to engage in rescue operations, which saved one person successfully.

The "Matsuwa Maru No.3", which witnessed the collision between the "Nadashio" and the "Fuji Maru No.1" about 1,000 m west from her, reported to the scene immediately and reached close to the north of the point of the collision at about 15:46 hours, lowered a launch with an engine and saved 12 persons composed of both crew members and passengers while they were drifting.

Incidentally, notification by the Maritime Self-Defense Force to the Yokosuka Maritime Safety Office was made at about 16:00 hours.

As a result of the collision, the "Nadashio" suffered dents accompanying holes and cracks in the starboard bow, which were repaired at a later date; and the "Fuji Maru No.1" was completely crushed in the lower part of her bow together with ruptures, with the starboard bilge keel bent and the bottom plating in the midship section dented, and sank as a result of water which found its way through the ruptures. She was salvage but later scrapped.
