With trainees, both teachers can 'team teach', with explanations given in the mother tongue and translated into English.
It will generally be found that "good support" motivates and produces "good teachers of maritime English" - willing to work that extra hour to generate sensible, interesting and innovative learning material. It is in the interest of the Maritime University or Training College to produce good English speaking seafarers who will be employed on the latest, computerised vessels-some of which we saw earlier-but this needs good teaching and it is on behalf of all your English teachers that I present this workshop today.
