5TH International Conference on Engine Room Simulators

Singapore, 26 - 29 June 2001

Simulator Aided Education & Training in the New Millennium

(Jointly organised by Singapore Polytechnic and Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore)

 

Singapore is strategically located at the crossroads of the world's major shipping lanes. The island nation, already established as a world class port, is now on its way to becoming a major maritime centre. Singapore has remained the world's busiest seaport since 1986. In 1998, more than 130,000 ships called at the port. The island nation is a leading ship repairing, ship broking centre and has been No.1 bunkering port since 1989. Singapore shipping registry is 5th largest in the world.

 

The Conference

 

The main objective of ICERS5 is to unite in a scientific environment the academics, professionals, and decision-makers of the maritime world and related interest groups. This will also provide a forum for exchange of views, experiences, innovative and challenging ideas related to simulator-aided education, training, research and development leading to safer ships and cleaner seas. ICERS 5 will be of interest to Ship Owners, Ship Managers, Marine Engineers, Maritime Administrators, Academics and all other Maritime Professionals from all over the world.

 

Technical Papers

 

The suggested topics are as follows:

・Simulator aided training for sea-going engineers at operation and management level, crew resource management (CRM), team building, and crisis management;

・Use of simulator in the assessment of competency of sea-going engineers;

・Simulator aided training in reducing human error in the operation and maintenance of marine machinery;

・Use of machinery simulator in the training of deck officers, engine room and deck ratings;

・Specification of a typical machinery simulator for operation, performance monitoring and fault diagnostics;

・Latest developments in Computer Based Training for Marine Engineers

・Latest developments in Marine Machinery Simulators : Application of Bond Graphs, MEMS, and Micro Processors...

・Standards for certification of machinery simulator systems;

・STCW 95 Convention & ISM Code: Significance of simulator aided training as a mandatory requirement
