SUBJECT Issues Raised by AMETIAP Members at the 3rd AGM Annual Conference held at Shanghai Maritime University, October 1998.
This paper is a compilation of issues raised by members and has been prepared for the information of the EXCO and EXECSEC.
As these issues reflect the needs/ideas of members it may be that AMETIAP is able to utilise this information to further develop the relevance and activity of AMETIAP.
1. Issues raised by 'large' MET institutions (no particular order)
・need for greater use of flexible modes of educational delivery (2)
・difficulties in getting well qualified staff (4)
・equipment
・more AMETIAP workshops
・need for stevedore and oil spill response training
・dissemination of information-AMETIAP role? (2)
・teacher training
2. Issues raised by 'small' MET institutions (no particular order)
・shortage of qualified instructors
・curriculum development
・quality standards and implementing ISO 9000
・training for existing instructors
- staff exchange
- in service training
- sharing instructors
- simulator training
・clear identification of regional 'centres of excellence'
(able to provide by specialised, expensive, training?)
・need for a self funded AMETIAP training vessel
・establish an information bank for:-
- staff training
- resource acquisition
- information exchange
・English language
- IMO model course to be developed?
- diagnostic testing (WMU develop?)
