Long period climate datasets provide evidence that the summer rainfall around Japan is substantially influenced by a stationary wave-pattern that extends along continental Asia. Persistent thermal and circulation anomalies can be noted across the Asian continent in association with this wave-pattern. The relationship between the wave-train and rainfall variability in the Far East will be described in the presentation.
