SUMMARY
Executive summary: This document reports on the October 1998 mission of experts to South East Asia region countries.
Action to be taken: Paragraph 3.

1 Pursuant to the Committee's instructions at its sixty-ninth session (MSC 69/22, paragraph 16.4), a mission (consisting of representatives of the Governments of Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States, observers from ICS/ISF and ITF/ICFTU and the Secretariat) was undertaken, from 5 to 11 October 1998, to Manila, Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta in co-operation with the Governments of the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia, respectively.
2 A preliminary report was submitted to MSC 70 (MSC 70/15/1/Add.1). The full report of the mission is given at annex.
Action requested of the Committee
3 The Committee is invited to note the information provided in the annexed report and, in particular, to:
.1 note the conclusions of the mission (annex, paragraphs 54 to 56); and
.2 consider the recommendations made in paragraphs 57 to 62 of the annex and take action as appropriate.
