6 From the same information, it emerges that fifty-one crew members of the ships involved were killed and thirty-one wounded during the reported incidents. It has also been revealed that, on two occasions, pirates used false distress signals to deceive their victims.
7 The total number of incidents of piracy and armed robbery against ships, reported to have occurred from 1984 to the end of February 1999, was 1,395.
8 With regard to acts of piracy and armed robbery against ships reported to the Organization since preparation of document MSC70/15, information thereon has been circulated by means of monthly reports (MSC/Circ.875, MSC/Circ.877, MSC/Circ.880, MSC/Circ.897, MSC/Circ.899 and MSC/Circ.902) and quarterly reports (MSC/Circ.876 and MSC/Circ.898).
